The Ambivalence of Borderlands and Minority Affiliations

28 October 2026

On Friday, October 30, as part of the annual conference of the Hungarian Sociological Association, a panel discussion entitled The Ambivalence of Borderlands and Minority Affiliations will take place. Drawing on the book Mezsgyevilágok: A határvidékek és a kisebbségi kötődések ambivalenciája (Borderland Worlds: The Ambivalence of Borderlands and Minority Affiliations) by our colleague Zoltán Ilyés, who passed away ten years ago, the panel participants will explore mixing and cultural interference in borderlands, as well as the institutional and everyday practices that regulate access to resources, belonging, and mobility. The panelists will be Krisztina Rácz, Karolina Lendák-Kabók, Csilla Zsigmond, and Zsuzsa Árendás. The panel is organised by Margit Feischmidt.
