A study by Csilla Fedinec and Imre Szakál: "... Nothing but devotion to the cause." The History of the Ruska Kraina Emigrant Governing Council, 1918-1921 has just been published in Fórum Social Science Review issue 2026/3, DOI: 10.61795/fssr.v28y2026i3.05

This study examines the Ruska Kraina Emigrant Governing Council (1918–1921) in the context of the political transformation of Central Europe following the collapse of Austria-Hungary. Augustin Stefan, former governor of Ruska Kraina, established the Council in exile in Poland to represent Rusyn interests and preserve political and administrative continuity linked to the Hungarian state. The Council maintained contacts with Hungarian diplomatic and military circles, conducted propaganda activities, and explored the possibility of military action with Polish support. Most of these plans remained unrealized as a result of the changing international environment. The history of the Council illustrates the complex interplay of nationalism, minority politics, state loyalty, and émigré political activism in Central Europe in the aftermath of the First World War.

Csilla Fedinec will participate in the international conference “Ukraine and the European Union amid the Transformation of the Security Environment: Political and Governance, Socio-Philosophical, and Psychological and Pedagogical Discourses,” to be held at Uzhhorod National University on 25–26 September 2026. She will deliver a plenary lecture entitled “The Transformation of the European Union’s Enlargement Policy and Ukraine’s European Integration Process: Continuity and New Elements Compared with Previous Waves of Enlargement."

Csilla Fedinec will participate in the international conference “Spatial Turns in Ukrainian Studies,” organized by Denkraum Ukraine at the University of Regensburg on 21–22 September 2026. She will give a presentation entitled “Minority, Borderland, Region? Rethinking Carpathian Ukraine Beyond National Frameworks” in the panel “Regions in Conflict and Entanglement: Carpathian Ukraine, Hungary and Ukraine.” The conference focuses on changing research frameworks in Ukrainian studies, knowledge production during wartime, and new approaches to Ukraine’s regions and borderlands.
