Judit Durst presented at the conference of the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology on 5th December 2024. Her presentation was entitled Financialization of social policy: From selective pronatalism to facilitating the social reproduction of an upcoming (rural) Roma middle class. The case of the Baby expecting loan in Hungary.

János Szilárd Tóth (Institute for Political Science) and Nándor Bárdi (Institute for Minority Studies) of the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences discussed the impact and consequences of the 2004 referendum on dual citizenship on the 20th anniversary of the referendum on 4 December 2024 on the "public sobering channel" Észverés

Csilla Fedinec's article, published in the 3rd issue of Válasz Offline, describes the period since Ukraine's independence in 1991: its nationalism/patriotism, its revolutions (there were not two, but three), and debunks many myths that persist in Hungarian public discourse.

The Minority Policy Research Group of the Ludovika University of Public Service is organising an expert seminar on 4 December 2024 with the participation of our colleagues Nándor Bárdi and Csilla Fedinec.

The Russo-Ukrainian war has been going on for 11 years, and on 19 November it was 1000 days since the start of its hottest phase, Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Embassy of Ukraine in Hungary, the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary and the Liaison Office of the European Parliament for Hungary are organising a round table discussion with the participation of our colleague Csilla Fedinec at Europe Point on 3 December 2024.

On 27 November 2024, Béni L. Balogh gave a lecture at the Miskolczy Ambrus Memorial Conference organized by the Liszt Institute in Bucharest. The title of his lecture in Romanian was "Transilvania în toamna anului 1918" ("Transylvania in the Autumn of 1918").

György Szerbhorváth will give a lecture on 28 November 2024 in Novi Sad entitled Hungarian writers as war correspondents in Serbia – stereotypes about the “Balkanians”, as part of the international conference Understanding cultures – imagined and/or real borders.

The Minority Policy Research Group of University of Public Service is organising a professional discussion on the latest issues of our journal REGIO, the past and present objectives of the periodical, and the state of Hungarian minority studies.
