Balázs Dobos and Iván Halász's book "Úton az elismerés felé. Régi és új kisebbségek Kelet-Közép-Európában" (On the Road to Recognition: Old and New Minorities in Central and Eastern Europe) has been published by L'Harmattan and the Institute for Legal Studies at ELTE Center for Social Sciences. Viktória Bányai will give a presentation with Rita Horváth at the conference Year Zero: The Experience of 1945 – Endings, Transformations, and Renewal in Vienna on September 12, 2025. The title of their presentation is Drawing to Document: How Holocaust Survivor Jewish Girls Depicted Their Surroundings in Budapest in 1945.
The complete video recording of the CEU István Bibó Free University course entitled "DEPENDENT RELATIONSHIPS: Hierarchy, Moral Economy, Clientelism" is now available for the spring semester. The course was led by our colleague Gergely Pulay. The course syllabus can be found here.
A Romanian-language article by Béni L. Balogh has been published in issue 1-2/2025 of the quarterly journal Arhivele Totalitarismului (Archives of Totalitarianism), published by the National Institute for the Study of Totalitarianism (Institutul Naţional pentru Studiul Totalitarismului) in Bucharest. The title of the article is "Cotitura de stânga al lui Petru Groza la sfârșitul anilor 1920, începutul anilor 1930" ("Petru Groza's left-wing turn at the end of the 1920s and the beginning of the 1930s").
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Satu Mare is organizing a conference on August 7-8, 2025 titled "Sathmarland, du meine Heimat" The Swabians of Sathmar from the Settlement to the Present Day. Two of our colleagues will also give presentations at the conference. The title of Ferenc Eiler's presentation is: "Dangerous Friends" The Fundamental Dilemmas of German-Hungarian Cooperation in Romania. The title of Réka Marchut's presentation is: The Swabians of Sathmar and the Catholic Church during the Years of the Second World War (1940-1944). Réka Marchut is also a member of the conference's organizing team.
